Core Baserunning Settings
Setting   Recommended Value   Why It Matters
Baserunning Interface   Buttons (or Fixed Analog)   Buttons give clear, direct control of which runner goes to which base. Fixed Analog is a solid alternative to the newer “Directional Analog” system, which can cause awkward camera shifts and confusing input directions.
Baserunning Decision   Manual   Switching from Auto to Manual prevents the AI from making questionable choices, like sending runners into double plays or holding them back too conservatively.
Slide Direction   Manual   Gives you control over which way your runner slides, helping avoid tags depending on the ball’s position.
Runner Windows   On   Keeps a small tracker of all active runners on screen so you never lose sight of who’s leading or lagging.
Specialized Baserunning Tactics

Mastering these finer mechanics can dramatically improve how efficiently you run the bases.

The "Half-Way" Rule

When a fly ball goes to the outfield with a runner on first, move your runner about halfway to second. If the ball drops, they’re ready to advance safely; if caught, you have enough time to retreat and avoid a double play.

Stealing in Road to the Show (RTTS)
Disable "Action Pitches": Switch your RTTS pitch view to "All Pitches" or "Lead Runner" to better track the pitcher’s pickoff moves.
Manual Lead and Jump: Hold the left stick left to get a good lead, then flick it right as the pitcher begins the delivery to steal efficiently.
Slide Type: Use head-first slides (Right Stick UP + R1/RB) for tight plays. They’re often faster than feet-first slides.
Freeze Runner Command: On contact, freeze your runner if you’re unsure about the ball’s depth. This avoids accidental auto-advances into force-outs.
General Gameplay Boosts
Fast Play Presentation: Turn this on and disable walk-ups to speed through transitions, which is helpful when grinding in RTTS.
Perfect Close Play Calls: Turn this on for offline modes to make sure the umpire calls are accurate during tight baserunning moments.

Fine-tuning these settings lets you focus on smart decisions instead of fighting the game’s AI or awkward controls. With practice, manual baserunning will feel natural, letting you squeeze every extra base and avoid those frustrating outs.
